Yes, I was with a single permit during PhD work.

Nothing has happened. Actually, I went to the city hall to ask for the procedure and criteria. Honestly speaking, the lady on the encounter was not welcoming and not this much interested in giving me the information. She generally said you cannot directly ask for PR with card A type (single permit). One has to apply for a B card first. This is the only useful information I received from her.

i am doing PhD and I worked in industry before and has a single permit but with a start of PhD that one was cancelled and I got a student A card with a duration of 1 year, I extend it every year

also the fact that you had a single permit not student card like I have, makes you a favor in terms of application for PR, don’t listen to that lady but apply

I went to the Commune to check which type of residence card I qualify for. They reviewed my case, consulted with their boss, and informed me that I can apply for an L card. You should go to ask them and apply as soon as possible

I completed my Ph.D. with a scholarship, so I didn’t have a single permit during that time. However, they didn’t divide 2 the duration of my stay, as I initially calculated they might.

It seems they may have changed the policy, 5 years of uninterrupted stay, show 3 months of payslips or proof you have enough money to stay( for L card), I hold single permit A card with permenant contract and I hope.

A friend of mine had stayed in Belgium for 8-9 years as a master,Phd student and postdoc, applied for an L card with a 1-year postdoc contract and got rejected, IBZ informed her that it couldn’t guarantee her contract will be renewed the following year.

That said, I’m still confused about the differences between the K card and the B card. Any insights?
