I was laid off from my company

sreenathv1989

Hello,

I got  laid off from my company and was on single work permit. I moved to Belgium in April 2023 and was working for last one year. I got mail that I need to apply for a new single permit or leave the country by July 1st. All my recent job searches were giving me contract roles. My question is whether I can apply for a professional card before July 1st and extend my stay here in Belgium. Or does it have to be single permit. Also how long does it take to get professional card. I stay in Flanders region

I believe it has to be a single permit for 5 years stay in Belgium.

plus, the process of application to renew your card (whether single permit or professional) will take 3 months minimum. Meaning, you must have applied for it April 1st so you can receive it July 1st. unless if there is an express method where you can receive it in less than a month. good luck

You can apply for a professional card but most likely you would need to leave the country while waiting for a decision. The procedure is not simple and requires extensive home work preparation (business plan, financial plan, etc). If you want to save time/increase your chances you can use agencies like beroepskaart.be
