Problems? or challenges in Quito

dave.j.harman

A couple of questions for the Community:

My family in UK have sent me mail, but nothing arrives at our home address near San Rafael, clearly the postal delivery system is not great .... does anybody know of a Post Restante or Box Service that does work, preferably in or around San Rafael / Quito

Secondly, whilst I am enjoying much that my new Ecuadorian family offer me to eat, I am |(ONLY!!) missing European and British cheeses, having looked at Eciuadorian - and indeed general South and central American cheese, it tends to be made and sold almost immediately, without the lengthy storage  and maturity process that gives European cheese so much flavour .... I've found good Manchego (in San Luis Mall), and several Dutch cheeses in Megamaxi, but am hoping .... somewhere .......  to find British Cheddars, or  other "hard" cheeses, or Italian ............ anybody found any in and around Quito?

Thankyou all

Dave

Dear Dave,

Consider it possible that Correos del Ecuador has received some of your mail and -- for reasons we Gringos do not understand -- is not delivering to your domicilio..

Go to the office nearest you and ask around?  Is the mail in the back?  Is it at the central office in town?  Was it returned to sender because nobody picked it up?  Is there a method to be notified when mail arrives?  Did the mail lack a postal code or proper addressing?

Hi and thanks for your reply

So we do not have a postcode as such, and the mail was not returned .......

As for the local office, we tried that as well and were simply told that "it was nothing to do with them"

Stalemate I fear!!

Other strategies....

1.  Go another day and ask a difference postal person.

2.  Arrange to speak to the jefe.

3.   Go to the main office in town and ask there.

Zemela

There is a cheese shop here on Madrid street in La Floresta that has some selection.

To give wider audience to your cheesiest questions, Dave, you may wish to post on the "For Cheese Lovers Only" thread of this Ecuador forum.  The generic title you gave to this thread may be causing some interested parties to miss out.
