Help selecting schools

EHannah

Hello everyone.  I've just registered and don't fully understand how this works.  Please bear with me!

We are moving to NC from Scotland and can have the use of a house while ours (in Scotland) sells.  Can I enrol my daughter in a school temporarily while we wait for our house to sell?  We can then buy in NC in an area with a good school.

Also, how do you find out about catchment areas?

Any information about schools that I can get will be useful - I'm struggling....

Thankyou!

Hi EHannah and welcome to É«»¨ÌÃ!

Have you gone through the forum to see whether there are topics which may interest you?

If you live in a house - provide evidence of it. Such as an official (bank, government) letter/mail with your name and adress or new USA driver licence with your adress.
If you rent an house/apartment - ask owner what school area.
Go to school or call then (can fax) and grab house/apartment lease contract, kids birth certificate and kids immunization record.
School usually tell right away it they have spots and if you qualify. Public schools are free and no application fees. Some school may ask for some supplies for you kids projects.

If you know your "good school" now and do not live in their district. They will ask you to pay a fee - it ranges from $50 to $5000 depending on state, county private/public.

Hi pav-kov, thanks for your answer.  Can you tell me what time frame the $50-$5000 covers?

Also,  if we bought a property in a certain area because of the school, would we be guaranteed a place?

Thanks again for your help.

For  public school it is just a registration fee. So it is per school year. If you do it on time (March-June) it can be even free. Private - depends - can not tell.

Officially yes. They keep in mind someone can leave or come.
If you are out of area and no places - 100% no.
If you move into area soon call them now.

However public school wants to know in advance enrollment number to form class and may have looooong waiting lists for people out of district.

That's really useful - thankyou!!

P.S. I may have more questions another time if that's O.K. Sorry

Hey Hannah

There are many montessori schools which might help you in getting the admission of your daughter. They are very flexible in their rules and I think they could help you. More information is available on net, but for your help I have given the following site.
