To get first DNI. Walk-in to police station to apply-no appointment

linsaywv

I can't make an appointment to get my first DNI card. Some people say you can just walk in and apply. Or get there early in the morning and be the first in line?

I doubt you can do a walk-in. My guess is that you'll need to make an appointment, and have all required documentation (not just your shiny new Spanish passport).

When I first arrived in Spain, 9 years ago, I could make an appointment for empadronamiento, huellas, etc at any time.  For the last 3 or 4 years, I have found that appointments are only released early in the morning (8 to 9) and if you call after 9:30, they will not be available.

Try early in the morning.

I think it depends upon the size of the station you’re going to. In Valencia city proper, my son needed an appointment. However there was a snafu (of course), so when he had the required docs, he went to a  national police office in a smaller pueblo and he walked in without an appointment and walked out with his DNI.
