Moving to Malta with my family

Teammy

If I am applying for a Maltese EU Blue Card, will I able to bring my wife with me right away provided the EU Blue card is approved?

Welcome to this forum. The Maltese EU Blue card is valid for skilled employees and not their families. However, the family can apply separately. It is surely an interesting question how long it will take until family members are allowed to come as well.On this platform Business directory there are immigration lawyers who offer their legal advice. One of them will surely be able to give you a precise answer.

Right, why do you want want to come to Malta? Have you visited the country before, do you have a job to go to?

Teammy

Thanks. I have never been to Malta before. However, I got a job as a researcher and this is what is bringing me to Malta. The position should last for 24 months.

Can I come to Malta as a visitor and change my visa to a work permit? Is it easy for foreign nationals to get jobs in Malta?

No this is not possible. You cannot come to Malta on a tourist visa and then work whilst you are here. If you are looking for job your employer must apply for a work permit while you are in your country of residence and you then wait for a letter of Approval in Principal. Third-country nationals cannot directly submit an application for a single permit, but their prospective employer needs to apply online on their behalf.

Third-country nationals who receive a job offer from a company registered and operating in Malta are eligible to apply for a Single Permit that enables them to be employed in the job specified on the application, however the employer must provide a detailed description as to why the position could not be filled by an EEA/Swiss/ Maltese national, and prove that efforts for such competences were searched.
