Attempting to move to France with past criminal conviction.

Scott Kenyon

Hello  all,

I  am looking to move to France sometime in the  near future and I am struggling to find what my options are. I have a non violent felony from 6 years ago that is making  life in the US  impossible. I recently learned that France and Germany have different  beliefs around rehabilitation and not condemning people for past mistakes. I should also mention that I spent no time in jail. I also do not have a degree, but I do have an impressive resume showing years of management experience. I am 36yo. Does  anyone have  any insights on this matter? Id love to know that this dream could be a reality.

Hello Scott,

Welcome !

Do you speak French ? If you don't it will be hard to find a job, specially if you were to communicate with clients/colleagues.

Degrees are also quite important as they will asked when applying for a permis de travail (work permit).

I suggest that you read the Living in France guide for expatsto gather as much information as possible.
