Also for those who go to One Love or Campo Kitchen, do you know if Juan and Jenni are still working there? I would like to bring them somethings.

Just to let you know, there was a devastating fire this morning at Pueblos de los Pescadores. The entire structure is gone, all restaurants have been lost. This is a blow to the community as a whole, but especially for the owners and employees of all those restaurants.
carolmarchena wrote:AGAIN!!! .聽 Just received videos 鈥 so so crushingly sad!!!
Let's hope they rebuild in concrete so there are firewalls between each restaurant! I don't know if the ownership has changed since the last fire, but rebuilding every decade is not a sustainable model!
We have been receiving "Whats Ups" all day about this. Sounds like a total loss. I know the community will rally around this as Las Terrenas is a very close knit community.

It supposedly started with Campo Kitchen and destroyed all 14 restaurants.
@NelleG
Hello NelleG,
I also be in Bayahibe 2nd. week in October. do you own property there of just for a quick vacay. We are investing on a property there and just looking to make new friends with like minded people.
Thanks,

Giving this聽 pinned post a boost.聽 Over the next few months many will come and go.聽 Lets help each other out when we can!
We'll be coming from Indianapolis 12/5 through POP, departing 12/20. I won't have a ton of room. But if anyone has letters/documents to mail or wants something small brought in, let me know. We'll be in Sosua.

Great offer! You might have folks wanting to send letters/small packages back with you since shipping out of DR is so expensive!
@Brewpub56
thats very nice of you to offer聽 , but i would keep it to letters/documents .鈥 make sure its not money 鈥
remember the customs people will as whats in the suitcase and have 鈥漼ou personally packed all luggage and 鈥澛 packages聽 鈥溌 yourself
i sure you wouldn鈥檛 have to worry about some small little package someone handed you to take out of the country for them鈥.馃槸
Normally envelopes are left open so the person packing their suitcase can verify. No one should take a closed package for anyone.

Exactly - and make sure you know the person too!
Short story, man goes on vacation with his to wife to her home country聽 ( Brazil ) while there they buy some souvenir鈥檚 , so now they don鈥檛 have enough room in their luggage .
聽 so the wife鈥檚 second cousin who she鈥檚 not to tight with says take my little carry on 鈥 i don鈥檛 need it he say 鈥 , so off they go to the airport ,聽 while at the airport聽 they get stoped by customs because there was drug residue in the the case鈥 just enough to get arrested for .聽 apparently the man had kept drugs in the suitcase at one聽 聽time鈥︹.
take what you want out of this story , but if something doesn鈥檛 belong to me and i didn鈥檛 buy it myself聽 its not goin w/me鈥uch to old for that nonsense
Hi, we are planning to go back to the Netherlands. We just had our 40ft container here for 4 months with all our belongings and some stuff we wanted to sell here, but things didn't work out as planned so far and we made the decision to go back to our homeland, we miss our family and friends more than we could imagine.聽 Its hard to find transport for personal belongings back to europe. As a 20 foot container might be too expensive we are also checking for options with just boxes and or a few large pieces. Does anyone know a reasonable option ? The link on this site didnt give me a usefull quote so far.
Regards Joep
No I didn't go as of yet, I am wondering on whether 3500.00 cdn would be sufficient to live on for extended period in the Dominican.
The main concern would be rentals, utilities and food plus health insurance.
Absolutely its聽 enough. YOu can live very comfortably on that.聽 Now I have assumed its just you and your spouse, no need for聽 private schools etc.
@Vaneijkjoep
I assume you tried the dutch movers and the one you already used to come to the DR?
Here are a few from the DR itself:
Too bad it didn't work out for you. I plan to spend more time in the DR but I am keeping my house in the Netherlands.
色花堂 Fatigue affects 80% of travellers who think they want to move to another country, only to discover that they have trouble with a new language, new culture, new climate and a loss of family and community from their old country.
You are not alone as you prepare to return to your country....
AND this is why we recommend聽 trying it out first before shipping everything here or buying a residence!聽
I'm coming down on 4/29 to oversee my small bathroom renovation project.
I would like to say I could bring something down for you guys if you needed it. But unfortunately, I have so MUCH stuff crammed into my 1 checked bag and personal item, there is absolutely no room left!聽 It is,聽 as we say in Indiana, a "New Track Record " in my packing abilities. Never has so much gone into so little. All household stuff.
I've also accumulated quite the collection of one way suitcases. I've contacted a beach vendor friend asking where they might be of use. He's going to take them and find them good homes. Well, at least a better homes than stacked up in top of my closet. Lol....
@Brewpub56 Instead of buying new one-way suitcases each time, consider collapsible duffels on wheels! Several times, I've been able to fit one (collapsed) into my carry-on along with everything I needed for my trip to the US. Then, I filled it for my return to the DR.
@ddmcghee
Their not new. I do have a collapsible one if I know I'm bringing stuff back. But most of the time, it's just household stuff. I just use these big, old suitcases taking up space, sitting in my attic. But thank you for the tip!
@planner
I love this idea! I don鈥檛 know how I missed this thread. I live in Charlotte, North Carolina. I am living in Santo Domingo with my husband when I come and go. I haven鈥檛 been able to figure out how to be there full-time financially. But I do have another trip planned at the end of this month. I am there every month when possible but every other for sure. If anyone has items that they need help with. I leave on April 28, 2025.
聽 Hi, I'm in Santiago, Dominican Republic. Does anyone know good apartments to rent for Economical Prices in good safe neighborhoods in Santiago?
聽 Thanks,
Maurice
@rawromantic1
How much do you want to pay?聽 Where we live is a safe neighborhood and the rent is cheap. I believe there is a penthouse apt for rent for $750 a month
@rawromantic1
This is off topic and you are hijacking a thread.聽 Please open a new thread honey and you will get better attention!
@dpatient63
Like any country, there are safe and unsafe places to live! None of us would live here if the entire country were unsafe!
This thread has a specific purpose - please don't jump on the previous poster's highjack! Search the forum for safety, different places to live, etc. You'll find plenty of opinions on different areas. Or you can start a thread to ask any specific questions you might have!
@Brewpub56
I usually buy a large suitcase at a tag sale in NY for $10 -20 , then fit one or two smaller ones inside for the return
after they start piling up
Regarding coming and going and bringing stuff.聽 My Dominican wife left Colorado to Santiago STI airport.聽 She flew 1st class Delta from Denver to JFK to STI.聽 When she left her 2 suitcases weighed 69 lbs each.聽 When she arrived and picked up her suitcases they were about 50 lbs each.
My point, lock your suitcases, put security seals on them and wrap them in cellophane.
All the stuff that was stolen was new in packages, bras, panties, mattress covers, etc.
Maybe I'm a little pissed off, and paranoid, but the tags on the suitcases had my gringo last name.聽 It might have turned out better with her Dominican last name.
