Arod and a 1 Billion USD investment in Luxury Tourism for Playa Grande

windeguy

Miami, Florida.- Tourism Minister David Collado and former Major League Baseball star and entrepreneur Alex Rodríguez announced a groundbreaking investment of over US$1 billion in a new luxury tourism project at Playa Grande, in María Trinidad Sánchez province. The initiative marks the beginning of an ultra-luxury development phase, featuring new hotel and real estate accommodations.

Minister Collado highlighted the announcement as a clear signal of private sector confidence in the Dominican Republic’s economic and tourism environment. He noted the project’s potential to significantly boost high-end tourism, especially in the northern communities of Río San Juan and Cabrera.

Alex Rodríguez expressed pride in being part of such a transformative development. He emphasized the project’s potential to attract global elites through partnerships with Amanera and Discovery Land Company, reinforcing the country’s appeal as a luxury destination. Playa Grande, already known for its world-class Amanera hotel and golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones, is set to become a premier destination for upscale travelers.

Ahhhhhh  yes another  development announcement. Still waiting on  actual progress at Playa Bergentine after numerous announcements.

And imagine this goes forward. The airport at Puerto Plata is the most expensive in the country and is not well serviced.   I can imagine the type of people this new project will attract arriving at Puerto Plata airport.......

Dont get me wrong, I hope this all goes forward! I hope it creates good paying jobs for many locals!

Well, they did cut in a few roads at Playa Bergantin and then nothing for months and months.

Plaza construction at Sosua Beach is going at a snails pace.

Lots of other smaller projects underway, especially by Leo and his group from Argentina, including a plan to relocate La Cienaga in Cabarete.

Dominican-Argentine businessman Leonardo Wehe presented the repositioning strategy of the Cabarete tourist destination in Puerto Plata with his company Cabarete Tango. The company has an unprecedented proposal that combines luxury, culture, nature, and sports.

“The world is looking for authentic experiences, and Cabarete has it all: the wind, the surf, the art, the jazz, the warmth of its people and now, thanks to our vision, a luxury offer integrated into nature that does not exist anywhere else in the Caribbean”, he said within the framework of the most important tourism fair, the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE) 2025.

Wehe’s proposal is based on three pillars:

● Water sports and nature as a lifestyle.

● Investment in luxury infrastructure inspired by the local identity, taking advantage of the tourist destination’s natural resources.

● World-class cultural and artistic events that celebrate the soul of Cabarete, such as Cabarete Jazz Festival 2025.

As explained by the investor, the vision is already bearing fruit with multiple projects in execution, such as:

Eden Cabarete is a luxury condominium complex facing Cabarete Bay, designed by architect Byron Rodriguez and built by SC Engineering. Inspired by the waves and vegetation of the environment, it has broken sales records in the area.

ICON Cabarete is an avant-garde boutique design development with beachfront residences that redefines exclusivity in the area.

Cabaret Country Club, a 9-hole floodlit golf course in a residential complex of more than 350 units between villas and condominiums. A wide selection of amenities and sports proposals.

Hotel Villa Taina—New approach, a classic of tourism in Cabarete that has been renovated to align with the new vision of the destination. It currently has as a complementary offer the Amazonian store, making available to the market garments made by designers so that people can access high beach fashion. It is a beachfront meeting point with gastronomy with its renovated Serenade restaurant and the Villa Taina Water Club water sports school.

Cabarete Jazz Festival 2025: After its successful return in 2024, Wehe confirmed that the 2025 edition of the festival will be held on June 20-21. International and Dominican artists will perform at an unprecedented oceanfront music event.

I wll have about 500 new "neighbors" soon since I live in the development in front of the golf course and just in back of Mareal and Travieso in Cabarete.  More condos and a supermarket are planned for just across the main highway in El Rocon.

Not just golf ; Night Golf!

I have been following a lot of this.  As for  Cabarete "repositioning"  ok,  right. Just blah blah blah.

Illuminated golf, ok.  I dont see that in and of itself as a major game changer but a welcome addition if and when it happens.

Sadly I am jaded about "new developments".  As many of the long timers can attest to, we hear it a lot, but the actual full on construction does not always follow.  I remain hopeful but skeptical.

Any thoughts on City Center Santo Domingo (Largest mall of the DR) in Santo Domingo Este?

I saw announcements but it was very light on details. supposedly will be anchored by 2 hotels, which are needed on this side. BUT they also said they were still looking for financing.  Translation, this is still a dream or a wish until financing is actually secured!

And could they come up with a more unique name for goodness sakes...... Just sayiing.

Leo from Argentina is a pretty serious developer.  His projects in Cabarete are likely to be completed including the Cabarete Country Club. All are in process with Eden being the furthest along.

As for night golf, as a non-golfer I have no idea how that will go over.  It would be cooler, that is for sure at night with no need for sun block, so there is that.
