One way flight into VN

Svho

Anyone have first hand experience flying into VN with one way ticket into the country? Does the government require a return flight or to another destination?  I have been there 3 times and a native from Danang.  Looking to make a move there within the next 15 months.

My visa exemption allows 6 months in VN.

With your 5 Year VEC good for a 6 months entry, you won't have any problem from Vietnam officials on entering the country.

I have personally flown in two different times on one-way tickets and never had a problem, even when I flew in the last time in July of 2022 on a 30-day evisa.

Your only possible problem can come from purchasing a flight itinerary that takes you through a country that doesn't fully understand the 5-year VEC or doesn't understand the rules in Vietnam regarding onward travel.

So we always answer with the caveat that you should check with every airline you're going to be on to make sure that they don't have a requirement.

Your main airline may not be a problem but a connecting flight could be.

Vietnam immigration itself does not require proof of onward travel for visitors to enter the country.

Heed member OceanBeach92107 's suggestion, and check with your air carriers prior to departure. See post #327, here.

Thanks guys!

I agree Ive never had a problem with a one way ticket into the country on my VEC but sometimes I have to argue with the airline a bit.

Glad to see you're making the trip over. Sorry I didn't have a chance to meet up with you when I was back for Xmas & New Years. Lots of lunches with family, old friends and co-workers. We can meet up if you're coming to Da Nang. One way ticket, does this mean you're finally moving over?

Yes, looking at May/June 2026.  Haven't been to this site for a while since I posted.

Does VPN work from VN to USA?

Sorry, that's Off Topic...

😉

Yes I use NordVPN all the time. The only time I have any trouble is with certain streaming video sites that occasionally disconnect me. but I've gotten pretty adept at quickly choosing a different USA ISP.

The downside,,one way flights will cost you alot more usually.

I had to pay 45 million one way back to Canada once. Round trip ticket cheaper and return date can be changed for a small fee. Check airline for ticket validity.

Most airlines do not work this way anymore.

And Express VPN works better IMO. Faster, less router switching and works with most streaming options.

Both usually have subscription deals available.

Svho

Just exploring options to dial in for a side job :).  I have used NordVPN before.

HOLY!

What was your route and final departure point in Canada? Which airline(s)?

I use Eva air from Vancouver, layover in Tiapie a few hours then on to Tan Son Nhut HCMC

I've used Starlux Airlines a few times with one stop in Taipei with only a plane change and passport check to board there.  Great onboard flight service, fairly easy to pick your seat assignment for free in the 48 window prior to departure, somewhat generous luggage restrictions, and flight meals aren't too bad.

Also, I use Cyberghost VPN with no problems to speak of up in Tan Phu Dong Nai, northeast of SGN.  I can pick the country for the server site.

I've been lucky not to have to purchase e-sims here; every coffee shop and hotel and restaurant and girlfriend :) has internet.  Very generous people in these parts.  Five months now, and I love it here.
