Shipping stuff from the UK after you have moved to Vietnam

brookesclaudia32

Hi everyone,

I did search the forum for my topic but nothing came up strangely, so I apologise if this has been discussed many times before.

I have been in Vietnam for nearly 1 yr 5 months and I have a contract and TRC that can be renewed. I wanted to wait to see if things work out in Vietnam before moving all my stuff here. So I came here with 2 suitcases and a rucksack. Now I feel things are working out, I want to move/ship all my stuff in a storage unit from the UK. It's a small 30ft container as I never owned my own house.

I've been talking to other people but it's so confusing. They keep saying when I arrive in Vietnam I have to show all my papers at customs at the airport. But I'm already here. after that they say I don't what happens if you are already here?

How can I ship everything from the UK without any problems? I've heard about electronics. I have my laptop, main hard drive, mobile, kindle and camera here already. I'm struggling to remember what else I have...I think I have my back up hard drive, hair dryers and straighteners and lamps back home. Is a desktop hard drive a problem? I think I bought all my other  IT stuff first time round. But what if I've forgotten what's in my container?

Can I ship my storage container over here without having to go back to the UK? Do I have to go to the airport to receive it? What documents do I need? Do I need to thoroughly go through my stuff first? Do I need to remove my back up hard drive? And should I put no value on a 30ft container?

Any help would be appreciated, as when I go on shipping websites they want me to sign up for a quote for a 1 bed house before I can even look at their website info with dates etc... and I don't have any of this.

Importing household goods/personal items into VN can be very expensive. Not just in terms of shipping, but also import duties you may (will) incur.

Here is , with details of what will be required of you. (I have no affiliation, nor experience with this company and offer the link only as an information source)

The terms noted on that page are, in my experience, standard fare for importation of personal goods into a foreign country.

Fedex also gives a list of both .

@Aidan in HCMC Thanks very much for your help, I'll have a look

Find a good agent at both ends. I shipped a container of my personal belongings to Vietnam without trouble or silly costs. Do not try and do yourself - I had more trouble importing a single book myself from the US than for a container from uk with agent.

Hi, I have a friend from UK lives in D2 (used to be on the forum a lot) who is International Sales Manager for a big Vietnamese logistics/freight forwarding company based in HCMC. I have messaged him & he said for you to get in contact with him & he thinks he can help. You can send me a PM if you are interested & I will give you his phone number & company details.

Hi has anyone experience shipping from HCMC to Ireland?

38kg total net weight of items for shipping, no rush on time, 4 fragile goods, no import tax in Ireland (is this possible? Only our used belongings from Ireland/ travels)

Had a company lined up but they’ve changed their quote to ‘dimensional weight’ instead of ‘net weight’ without clear reasons for which items fall under each category. (My musical instrument 4.99kg net weight has now got a 26kg dimensional weight at 320.000vnd/kg)

Hi, surely a 30 ft container will come in a shipping port rather than airport......ur error...
