Taxes for expats in Thailand

Cheryl

Hello everyone,

When settling in and living in Thailand, you will also need to navigate the local tax system. In order to help newcomers and expats ease their tax-related experience, we would like to invite you to share your experience.

What are the taxes applicable to expats in Thailand?

Have there been any recent changes in tax regulations that expats should know about?

Are there any local tax incentives or agreements with your home country?

Have you come across any unexpected or unusual local tax?

What do you wish you had known earlier about taxes in Thailand?

Share your insights and experience.

Thank you for your contribution.

I pay my US taxes every year so am not paying double taxes. Thailand and US have a treaty to prevent this from happening.

i used the e-filing website. unfortunately it is thai only and u need to have a tax ID (i have one from the time when i was working here).

using the phone app google translate camera to translate the items. it is cumbersome, but only thing that works as the google page translate does not work because the use the M$ aspx crap. ofc the copying and pasting the text in the google translate page works, too.

i also used the efiling help desk. you can send them the questions in english and they answer in english, but sometimes you have to repeat the questions due to misunderstandings.

worst thing is how the 190k age deduct can be selected. still not sure how i managed to get that. you cannot due it on the deduction page, but must do it after entering the income by going back to the selection page if i remember right.

also be aware if u select 3 installments to pay, make sure you pay them in time or u will be charged 2000 baht and need a trip to the tax office.

the page is horrible using light green and light grey on white (even worse than this site, which is also a very bad design regarding contrast).
