Overstay issue

Ritchie Samuel

So i have overstayed in Malaysia for 5 years now, i want to leave i dont mind the blacklist i earned it(lol) i just want to go back home. I recently heard about the Repatriation program i wanted to know anyone who has used it. They say set an appointment online, bring your passport and ticket and they'll give you the special pass and have 14 days to leave. I wanted to know if anyone has gone through the process at immigration how was it etc. Thank you

Overstaying

Section 15(4) Immigration Act 1959/63

a. Stay exceeding the expiry date/cancellation of visit pass.

b. The penalty for an offence on overstaying :-

A fine not exceeding RM10,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years or both

A compound of RM3,000.00

As such foreign visitors are reminded to leave Malaysia before their pass expired.

I'd be very interested in hearing more about this repatriation program you mentioned.

Good luck.

Here in Indonesia immigration charges IDR 1 million for each day if you overstay for less than 60 days and you can easily pay it when you exit the country. More than 60 days is a more serious offence.

Hopefully everything will go smoothly, but I am also interested to know what immigration says and about this repatriation programs. Is it some kind of amnesty?

I have a feeling blacklisting is the least of your problems. IF Malaysia has a program to simply let people go, doesnt it follow that everyone in the world would do it? What would be the purpose of immigration laws then?  Am I wrong? While I havent heard of overstayers going to prison, many foreigners in the country illegally do wind up in horrid conditions in a decrepit detention center located in the middle of the country. While I dont wish that on anyone, its hard to be sympathetic to the case of a person knowingly and flagrantly violating the law. Behavior like that results in even more laws. Oh, wonderful.
