OTP's on Overseas Sim

TrishG

I have a MCB bank acc. I was originally issued with a hard token for internet banking. I am now told it needs to be replaced with a soft token. I will be returning back to SA shortly.

Does anybody know if I'll be able to receive OTP's on my MTN SA sim?

Hi TrisG,

My MCB SMS OTP worked on my MyT phone whilst I was in the UK. If for some reason it doesn't work for you when in SA, you can get your MCB OTP via WhatsApp. Therefore, as long as your Mauritius phone is connected to a WiFi point, your MCB OTP security check will function.

For sure you will. I'm with Absa Mauritius and receive all my OTP on my SA cell.

Transitioning from a hard token to a soft token for your MCB Internet Banking is a significant change, especially as you're planning to return to South Africa. Here's what you need to know:

1. Activation of MCB Soft Token:

MCB utilizes the "HID Approve" app for generating secure codes required for transaction authorization. To set up the soft token:

Download the App: Install "HID Approve" from the App Store or Google Play on your mobile device.

Activate the Token: Log in to MCB Internet Banking, navigate to the "Services" tab, select "Activate/Deactivate Token," and follow the on-screen instructions.

2. Receiving OTPs on Your MTN South Africa SIM:

The HID Approve app generates secure codes directly on your device, eliminating the need for SMS-based One-Time Passwords (OTPs). Therefore, your MTN South Africa SIM card is not required for generating these codes. However, ensure that your mobile device has internet access to facilitate the activation and regular functioning of the app.

3. Important Considerations:

Device Compatibility: Ensure your mobile device meets the necessary requirements to run the HID Approve app effectively.

Internet Access: While the app primarily generates codes offline, occasional internet access may be needed for updates or synchronization.

Security Measures: In case of device loss or change, promptly contact MCB to deactivate the old token and set up a new one on your new device.

By transitioning to the soft token via the HID Approve app, you can securely access your MCB Internet Banking services from South Africa without relying on SMS-based OTPs.
