Arabizi

Meez

I found some weird coincidence in the world of languages ..... so weird as the title of the topic ARABIZI (ARABI + ENGLIZI) this is how arabs say Arabic and English .

Anyway, I've found thru' my readings words similar to each other in both languages like : TOME (a large heavy book)> while the same pronunciation in Egyptian Arabic means(garlic)

and also NIMROD (someone stupid) in Slang American > while similar pronunciation in Egyptian Arabic NAMRUD means (stupid and arrogant) .. it is similar even in meaning! W0W!

In Alsham like Syria ... they say HONE meaning (right here) and in English they say HONE meaning (improve skills)

And of course some idioms hugs each other to announce that man would say it the same in every language and humanity is the meaning we share.... like : DON'T SELL COAL AT NEWCASTLE meaning (don't sell something in its own source country) ,, in Arabic we say MATBE'SH EL MAYA FI HART EL SA'AYEEN meaning (don't sell water where everyone sells it) the same but only the things sold is not the same (in Britain it's COAL, in Arabic it's Water)

That's enough for today, because I see some people yawning :)

Meez

Thanks Magnum for your passing by ... but I think you haven't got what I really mean.

what you listed is right and good work , but it talks about the original source (Etymology) of the English word and that's you may find in some dictionaries or linguistics books.

All I wanted to show that arabs or foreigners may hear a new word similar to another word in their language .. and of different ETYMOLOGY but still heard the same or may even means the same ... I'm talking about how weird people are alike no matter what their origin or culture or religion

Meez

I think your topic got 2 subjects one that i meant and the other is a similarity between proverbs !

Meez

2 examples with one purport .. We (humans) all resemble each other somehow.
